University of Tartu Professor of Estonian Language History and Dialects, member of the International Society of Livonian Friends, Karl Pajusalu has received a 2019 Latvian state decoration – the Cross of Recognition, 4th Class. The Croix de la reconnaissance is Latvia’s oldest decoration (established in 1710 in Liepāja). Karl Pajusalu has been a longstanding member of the Society of Livonian Friends. He has inspired many with his great interest in the Livonians and Livonian language, history, and culture. He has organised, led, and supported many Livonian events. Topics particularly close to his heart include ancient Vidzeme and the Salaca Livonian language, in which has authored several poetry collections (“Salats joug kolm aģa” (The Three Shores of the Salaca) and “Toini sina” (Other You) published in 2013).
